I bought myself my first new car last year, a 2005 Nissan Xterra. I went
cheap when I bought the car, in fact the only non-base model thing that I
added was power windows and the stock stereo is the first thing that I
regretted about the car, in pain words, it sucks. However, the upgraded
factory stereo was $800 and I didn’t feel like financing $800 for a stereo
and I thought I could get more bang for my buck in the aftermarket world.

My plan was to change out the terrible factory radio, hard wire the Sirius
radio, install the Xterra factory Sirius antenna and find a way to mount the
Starmate that would allow it be secure in the car but allow me to remove it
for home and office. I also wanted something that was cheap as I’ve been
down the mobile audio road before and had no desire to spend thousands on a
car stereo “system”, especially when most of my audio in on compressed
formats these days anyway, i.e. MP3 player and Satellite radio, nor did I
want to worry about the stereo getting ripped off.
