Scuba Show 2007:Kapitol Reef Snorkel

Submitted by breals on June 4, 2007 – 8:05 pm4 Comments

Kapitol Reef Snorkel. They claimed it was a respiratory device for snorkeling.I was walking around and I noticed a very cute booth babe standing at one of the booths on the end. I stopped by to see what they had and it was what I can only describe as the world’s biggest snorkel. The company Kapitol Reef Aquatics, makes the Kadence technology snorkel.
Designed by a doctor, I’m told that this snorkel is bone dry after a full immersion and will always give you a fresh breath; no rebreathing you exhalations on this puppy.

Kapitol Reef Snorkel. They claimed it was a respiratory device for snorkeling. ItIt work because it’s has an inner collapsible airway and a outer rigid airway with one way valves. Basically, one airway is for breathing in and one for breathing out. When not in use, the airway used for breathing a fresh breath of air is sealed and doesn’t allow either air or water in.

I’m told that this reduces exertion because you are always getting a fresh breath of air.

The unit is pretty large to accommodate the twin airway design. The reviews of this device by the major dive rags, Sport Diver and Scuba Diving, have rated this as an “Editor’s Choice”, with one calling this a snorkel, “a respirator device for snorkelers”. The sell for approx $89.

This snorkel is a waste of money. It gurgles constantly and scares wildlife away. It is an expensive noise maker.

I love this product. mine never gurgles. i love love love this product. i read the manual. all these rookie divers dont know how to properly use this amazing product. i use it on all my dives and i have really noticed a change in my fatigue. i love this product. best i have ever used.

I enjoyed using the snorkel. Like Jim, I noticed a slight gurgle, but just was able to clear in out by diving under and exhaling on the way back up. While a little bulky for diving, I think for those who want a great snorkeling experience, they should try it. It is well worth the $89 price tag considering what I spend on vacations for my family. I took it on vacation in a little rough water, and unlike any other snorkel I’ve tried, it stayed completely DRY. I love the fact that I I don’t have to blast it when I get above the water. I think the dual tube really helped with air exchange. While I don’t know exactly the science behind the pressure regulator on it, it did help to read the manual. Apparently it helps with the water pressure that the water puts on your lungs in the water. Whatever it is, I had a very pleasant experience.
