In college my buddies and I had an impressive beer collection. Our our obsession was fueled by Micheal Jacksons Beer Hunter book and the fact that we lived 4 miles for the top craft brewery in the US: Sierra Nevada.

In recent years, I’ve found a woman and job that I love in beautiful San Diego, CA. While this place is possibly the best place to live in the world, I’m always looking for new avenues to explore.

Enter craft beer brewing.

San Diego has an impressive collection of craft brewers to enjoy. To name a few:

Alesmith
Alpine Beer Company
Lightning
Pizza Port/Lost Abbey
Stone Brewing Co

I’ve been doing a weekly trip up to Alpine Beer Company to pick up their excellent Pure Hoppiness. The style that is in favor here; The Double IPA; it amazing. It has lots of hop flavor with a flowery finish. Yum.

In addition, San Diego has an great craft beer bar, O’Brien’s Pub, it has craft beer from all over California and a huge bottle collection

I’m in heaven…

Stone Brewery Tour

General, drink, food November 24th, 2007

IMG_0012 I love beer. Actually, let me recompose that statement and say that I enjoy alcohol I have a very non-American view on drinking, it’s not something to be ashamed of, it’s just part of our culture.

Anyway, I took a tour of Stone Brewery this week and sampled some of their fine craft beer. I’ve been on a wine kick for the last few years but after a tour, and some tastings that I started buying beer again. I purchased some fine growlers of Arrogant Bastard at Stone, it’s an excellent ale, with a strong, hoppy bite.

However, my favorite beer that day was the Stone Imperial Russian Stout, which is only available seasonally. Sadly, this meant that I couldn’t buy it “brewery fresh” in a growler to take home. So while I did get excellent two growlers of Arrogant Bastard, I had to canvas my local liquor stores of Russian Stout.

Today, I tasted the beer today, fresh beer is a lot better than the bottled variety. So, if you have a locally brewery, support them or just drink more of their beer.
