We have a MacMini in the living room and I have an old web cam in the office that we never used. I thought to myself. “Self, you need a webcam out here.”

So, after debating setting up a web server or just finding a service, I found Eyespyfx, a web sites/service. Eyespyfx uploads the web cam images and then you can view them on their website and a few smart phones, via downloaded paid apps.

So here the beta test of this setup. It’s dark in the room today and the dog(s) that I do see are just laying around.

Introduced at the beginning of the year, this Liquid Image underwater mask with built-in digital camera is now available in Japan for approx $120. No idea if or when this might be coming to other countries.

It features a 3 or 5 Mp CMOS sensor, LCD screen, 16MB of memory, MicroSD card slot (up to 2GB), a USB port, takes 2560×1920 resolution images, and records VGA resolution video at 25fps.

I just saw this on Rebreather World and it’s called the Open Revolution rebreather. Typically, rebreathers range from $5,000 to as much as $20,000, it’s a niche market with boutique manufactures. However, the Open Revolution is looking to upend that model and come to market with a manual closed circuit rebreather (mCCR) that will retail for approx $1500 USD.

For your $1500 you get an injection-molded mCCR with back-mounted counter-lungs, integrated diver alarm system in a heads up display (HUD), integrated carry handle, harness and first-stage regulators.

The catch? It’s not on the market, it’s unproven, currently has no CE rating and is being manufactured by a 3rd party company.

Rinspeed sQuba concept car

It’s just a concept car, there is no plans to produce this vehicle. But this is pretty cool. The regulators are Scuba Pro G250s which means that they didn’t skimp on the details. Its  brainchild of concept car designer, Founder and CEO of Rinspeed Inc

The petrol engine with three electric motors, one to power the rear wheels and two for the specially designed propellers. They are capable of taking it to 75mph on land, a more sedate 4mph while cruising in “boat” mode and a positively tranquil 2mph while underwater.

Once under water, its occupants breath air coming from an integrated tank of compressed air similar to that used by scuba divers. The vehicle can stay under water “until you run out of air or battery power,” which is about two hours.

Just got two of these Oxycheq Raider 3W LED backup lights to replace my current ones. Mainly, I got these to replace my older backup lights that were a bit too big on my dive harness, I wanted something a bit shorter without giving up burn-time or brightness.

These lights are bright, as bright as a 10w HID cannister light for 1/10 of the cost, i.e. $700 for a HID cannister and $70 for one of these LED backup lights.

I’m taking them on a trip in a couple of weeks and plan on putting then thru there paces.

I LOVE my iphone but I miss have a scuba diving decompression program on it. Having this I can plan my technical dives on the device that I always on me, my cell phone.

I used to have jdeco on my Blackberry, and before that I had DivePlan on my Sony P800 and way before that Decoplanner on my Palm. But when I moved to the Iphone, I had nothing and I so I had to go back to my PC/Mac based decompression program.

However, on the horizon there is now hope: IphoneDeco.com. The site just went up and announced the development but not yet released version of a decompression program for the Iphone/Ipod Touch platform.

Red, the HD camera company owned by the founder of Oakley Sunglasses, has announced a new smaller version of there amazing camcorders. The Scarlet, shoots in the REDCODE RAW HD, up to 4096×2304, which is beyond current HD and is more in line with a 35mm film camera.

Translation: Awesome looking HD-video that should look as if it’s shot with a 150K camera.

The target price is rumored to be around $3,000 USD and should be ready sometime next year…or whenever they ship it.

Also, it should be a great little travel camcorder due to it’s size. The only thing missing is an underwater housing for it which I am sure could be built by Gates or Light and Motion.

This is from a couple of years ago and the video quality isn’t great but it gives a quick introduction to the KISS rebreather.

The KISS rebreathers are like the rEvo in many regards some highlights:

• Easier to travel with
• include an integrated bailout value (BOV)
• have 3-independent oxygen displays
• non-integrated harness and wing
• easy to repair as most of the parts are off-the-shelf from places like REI/HomeDepot

It lacks:

• the modular scrubber
• integrated HUD
• tool-less maintenance chassis, the KISS needs tools

These units are about the same in cost but know that both of these units are sold in units other than the USD so the price for these units fluctuates as the United States Peso Dollar moves.
